We believe that in the conversation you will find not only the awareness that even an ordinary person can make a big difference, but also perhaps discover a new essence of traveling for yourself. ;-)
What was covered in the lecture?
- What illusions he lost in a rather blunt way during his work – 8:03
- Where Janek’s Achilles’ heel lies, causing him to start yelling uncontrollably at people – 20:52
- Why paradoxically he doesn’t want the ticket inspectors and other thieves to disappear from the city – 29:12
- Why as the only guest he did not answer our traditional closing question – 50:28
Who is Janek Rubeš?
Janek Rubeš began his career as a creator back in 2006, when he was making viral videos. He connected part of his life with the newly emerging Stream television, for which Janek Rubeš produced shows like Praha vs. prachy, Město podvodů?, and Život v luxusu. In 2018, Janek moved to the editorial team of the Seznam Zprávy project, where he remains active under Seznam to this day. He is the recipient of several awards, including the Křišťálová lupa and Novinářská křepelka honors, for his contributions to investigative journalism and his courage in exposing tourist traps.
Janek’s most famous work is undoubtedly the show Honest Guide, an honest video guide in which Janek Rubeš introduces restaurants, interesting tourist locations, and generally unconventional places that don’t usually appear in tourist guides. Within this show, he has also repeatedly warned tourists about “not exactly fraudulent but shady” currency exchanges and other tourist traps that unsuspecting visitors from abroad might encounter in Prague. But it didn’t stop at Prague — for example, there are episodes about Brno, New York, Helsinki, and Kyiv, and in one episode Janek Rubeš even visited Chernobyl.
