We met through the R(E)BELEADER program, and we’re also connected by the fact that we both went through Accenture and Česká spořitelna. At Spořka, Martin launched the internal incubator Seedstarter. “First time founder is a diagnosis,” Martin says somewhat provocatively. In CZECHárna, we discussed how the Czech startup scene compares to neighboring countries, how the pressure on startup founders is changing regarding company valuation, growth, speed of generating profit, willingness to invest personal capital, and the speed of acquiring paying customers for their products or services. We talked about the digitalization of business models, about how important it is to streamline—“lean out”—processes before a company embarks on a much more expensive technological upgrade. “There are plenty of ideas everywhere, but an idea without execution is a hallucination,” Martin Medek says in our interview.
