Resilience
The bar was set really high after professor Jaroslav Petr’s lecture, yet we wanted to push ourselves and nudge it a bit higher. :-) We had great hopes for professor Beneš in this regard, not least because recommendations for him came from an unusually wide range of sources. And deservedly so! Not only did he take us deep into the most complex known structure in the universe, but we also got a serious workout for our diaphragms, for example when he described the rivalry with Jan Pirk or the scene at the neurosurgeons’ Christmas meeting where Vladimír Beneš senior, junior, and the eldest all gather around the table.
What was covered in the lecture?
- A treatment method that despite its effectiveness scares many surgeons – 07:42
- The ten worst bad habits that are destroying your brain without you even knowing it – 45:03
- An amazing advantage hidden in the brains of left-handers that us right-handers can only envy – 01:06:25
- What Tomáš Řepka can boldly do, but young footballers should not be advised to – 1:39:59
Who is Vladimír Beneš?
Professor Vladimír Beneš has served since 1997 as the head of the Neurosurgery Clinic at the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, and the Central Military Hospital. It’s also interesting that neurosurgery runs in the Beneš family — the professor’s father was an outstanding surgeon, and his son is following in the same professional footsteps. The book “My journeys into the depths of the brain,” which is a transcript of the professor’s interviews with Martin Moravec, also significantly contributed to the recognition of the name Vladimír Beneš and sold out very quickly.
