In his lecture, he showed us how prominent figures in our history, such as T. G. Masaryk, Jan Patočka, Václav Havel, and Jiří Krupička, viewed us as Czechs. Don’t expect any sugarcoating! It seems that some of our “joyful” traits were already evident at least as far back as the First Republic. :-)

Who is Michal Stehlík?

Michal Stehlík is a leading Czech historian and Slovak specialist. He is a highly popular lecturer and an expert on modern Czech and Slovak history. He is also the author of numerous books and radio shows in collaboration with Czech Radio. From 2006 to 2014, he served as dean of the Faculty of Arts at Charles University. He is also the chief author of the Fenomén Masaryk exhibition at the National Museum.
