The third lecture of the year had more punch than a radioactive grapefruit, thanks to the speaker’s personality. :-) We took a deep dive into the fascinating (and tricky, if you’re unfamiliar) psychology of relationships, explored the different stages and the pitfalls that can most threaten a partnership. We covered polyamorous relationships and the reasons why long-distance relationships fail 80% of the time. We also looked at affairs in the context of social media and today’s world, where, as Jan Vojtko says, monogamy is almost a miracle.

What was covered in the lecture?

  • When you can be almost certain that your current relationship could last a lifetime10:57
  • The critical trait without which your partner will have a huge problem staying faithful30:40
  • Often overlooked step you should definitely take if you want to marry someone01:30:30
  • How to best get rid of excessive reactions to your partner’s behavior (both yours and theirs) – 1:58:31

Who is Jan Vojtko?

Although by profession Jan Vojtko is a therapist and psychologist, his work definitely extends beyond these fields. Under the name Honza Vojtko (or H:o)nza Vojtko), you might know him from popular children’s books he has written, online articles (for example on Psychologie.cz), and even from radio. He collaborates with Ester Geislerová and Josefína Bakošová (Instagram users will surely recognize the nickname Esterajosefina) on the project Terapie sdílením LIVE. He often says he loves his work, and anyone who has seen him in action will believe it without hesitation. :-)

Lately, he’s been increasingly visible in the media; for example, Jan Vojtko has appeared several times on DVTV. After publishing several children’s books, in 2020 he released the book “Vztahy a mýty” (“Relationships and Myths”), where he tackles the most popular (and most persistent) myths surrounding romantic relationships and tries to set the record straight. For Deník N, Jan Vojtko hosts the podcast “My a mýty” (“Us and Myths”), where he explores these topics even more deeply. His website fittingly bears the name “Potetovaná duše” (“Tattooed Soul”). :-)
