The breakfast also reveals why he supports the arts and how he got involved with them, his relationship with science, and how he views the boundary between support and business. Which entrepreneurs he respects, his attitude towards risk-taking, and what risks he himself has taken in life.
“Science can’t be done without money. I worked as a scientist. I basically jumped into business for financial reasons. That’s why I feel a responsibility to support young Czech scientists. And I prefer to support the arts rather than sports. For me, art and science are the foundation of Czechia’s success in global competition,” says Libor Winkler.
Who is Libor Winkler?
Libor Winkler is one of the main shareholders and managing partners of the financial group RSJ, which trades on global stock exchanges and manages a broad portfolio of investments in the Czech Republic and abroad. Outside RSJ, he has business activities in his native Ostrava and co-owns the Dobrá vinice winery, Vinograf wine bars, and the Prague restaurant Field. He invests in the arts through the ProArte fund, which he co-founded. He was also involved in founding the Neuron Foundation to support science, the Anti-Corruption Foundation, the Independent Journalism Foundation, and the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art.
