Can design heal? Common commercial assignments are craftsmanship for a designer. Today, real professional challenges lie in topics like democratic backsliding, cognitive warfare, the war in Ukraine, or communicating the climate crisis — environments where decisions are made about what we believe and what we are willing to do about it.
In recent years, Dodo has been exploring whether these topics can be approached through design: not by debunking lies one by one, but by creating environments that make people more resilient. He will present projects where he’s testing this — from Gift for Putin, which transformed the helplessness of thousands into action, through Kitten, which helps families manage emotions, to work for Milion chvilek pro demokracii. He will show the science behind it, what works — and honestly, what doesn’t yet.
Who is Dodo Dobrík
Dodo Dobrík is a designer and an accidental activist. He has been working in design for 25 years and has evolved from brands and visual identities to the question of what design can do for society when it stops asking “how to sell this” and starts asking “how to heal this.” His clients include Milion chvilek pro demokracii; he is behind projects like Gift for Putin, Kitten, and Poslušně hlásím! This is his second appearance at Brain & Breakfast — last time he ended with the sentence “If information can be a weapon, it can also heal.” Now he’s here to share what happened when he started taking that seriously.
