Lenka Vašková, a member of the Red Button network, talks about the book.

The book contains twelve chapters, one for each month of the year. Every month has its own poetry, holidays, and rituals, but also practical impact – how to explain everything to children, prepare in time, and not forget anything? With this book, you’ll gain plenty of inspiration and a practical helper that will always be at hand so you won’t forget a thing. You’ll create your own family rituals and enjoy traditional holidays together with your family, neighbors, and friends. Family – traditions – year – rhythm – nature – rituals – cooking – crafting – garden Everyone loves to celebrate. In November, we bake geese, Christmas is our favorite celebration, and at Easter we dye eggs. But do we know why? The night of St. Philip and St. James or St. John’s night sounds mysterious and magical to us.

The book explains specific holidays, explores connections, describes symbols and meanings, and relates them to modern life. It includes instructions for simple crafts and recipes for traditional and forgotten dishes (e.g., St. Martin’s crescent rolls or rosehip tea). It draws from traditions and restores the original essence of family and social life, when people lived in harmony with natural cycles and greater community. Many holidays and customs are celebrated together – in towns, villages, communities, among neighbors. Tune into the rhythm of nature, ground yourself, just be. Find your roots, natural work, joy in creating, and pass it all on to your children. These are values that will (hopefully) always be with us. Be here and now and seek the beauty and poetry of everyday life – learn to see the beauty that surrounds us. The book is suitable for moms, dads, parent centers, kindergartens, schools, grandmothers, and grandfathers.
