Today I welcomed Pavel Doležal to CZECHárna. We first met over 10 years ago during the “pioneer” migration of Spořka to the Google public cloud. I really like him for his straightforwardness, openness, and drive. Pavel was involved in the creation of Atlas in the Czech Republic and, through many other projects and companies, he is now mainly focused on developing Keboola. He builds a data platform like Lego blocks. They enable organizations to manage data from various sources and provide tools for data extraction and transformation, storage, and visualization. The first major investors in Keboola were satisfied customers – Tomáš Čupr from Rohlik and Eduard Kučera. Keboola is booming now… last fall it secured a 700 million investment from the large American fund Viking Global and has grown by 50% in just the last three months. It now has 120 people and is used by international companies like Burger King.
With Pavel, we talked about their expansion strategy into Canada and Britain. “You arrive in London and there’s constant construction, cranes everywhere. The country is always changing, hungry for change. You come back to Prague and it’s like a mausoleum here. Calm. We maintain our monuments, mainly not touching much. Building just a cable car to Bohnice is an unsolvable problem.” This was part of our conversation.
