Resilience
“Endurance sports teach you greater resilience and the ability to overcome obstacles,” says Hynek. “I remember once standing ankle-deep in water at the start of the Vasov run, and we were just beginning a nearly 100-kilometer race,” Hynek continues. “That kind of experience comes in handy in business too. When we started the company, we didn’t privatize anything, we had no contacts. We didn’t immediately focus on investors and built the business gradually from scratch with colleagues, accepting lower margins.”
Hynek Tyl has a technology background, but from the start, he built his business as a commercial company. Is Hynek conservative? Does he stick, in skiing terms, to classic cross-country or has he switched to skating? “I consider myself more of a conservative entrepreneur, but I know it’s necessary to try new things and be willing to take risks. We’ve also streamlined our approach several times along the way,” he shares in the interview. “The most important traits for business are persistence, personal integrity, the ability to take responsibility, and being sufficiently innovative. I should have realized earlier that automation isn’t a cure-all, that it can’t replace leadership skills. I could have started developing ‘sub-leadership’ within the company much sooner,” Hynek Tyl adds in our conversation.
